As we watch the first two episodes of Asur Season 2, we recall how, when it premiered in March 2020, the show quickly established itself as a cult favorite. Our attention was drawn to the manner in which it was discussed. We honestly do not recall whether the words “fascinating,” “thrilling,” or “gritty” were used, but we do recall the reviews’ overall sentiment. Due to the fog in our heads, we were restless when we started watching the show. As a result, after the first episode, we were about to give up when we saw something that made sure we would finish the season. One of the most brutal scenes ever shown in an Indian OTT series is the oven murder scene. The first two episodes of Asur’s second season promise to be vastly different from the first in terms of the rest of the plot. Season 1 of Asur was definitely not fast-paced.
In spite of this, the one thing that both seasons have in common—aside from a compelling story—is that you can’t stop watching them. The world of Asur is beautifully complemented by every word spoken, every emotion expressed, and even the visual cues that are not spoken. We just wish that Barun Sobti spoke in a higher pitch, but having watched his previous work, we know that, unlike Priyanka Chopra in Citadel, he is not intentionally doing so; Consequently, we choose to ignore it.
Rarely has a series occupied our thoughts as much as Asur has. A chronic executioner trusting himself to be a specialist of supernatural powers and unleashing ruin on the world is definitely not another idea. We can even assume that the Asur will eventually be defeated because “good will win over evil.” However, assuming the series is predictable, the narrative retains its appeal because it is never clear what the Asur is attempting to accomplish. He is severely irrational and has planned everything to the letter.
But for what purpose? To be true to his name, does he wish for evil to rule the world or for people’s dark side to take center stage in their lives? He cites scriptures that emphasize the good in the world, but his own experiences have made him so cynical that he believes they are meaningless. Whatever we call the antagonist, Asur, he wants total chaos, but for what purpose? Is it just for the sake of it, or is he hoping to become a leader as a result? Which is his ultimate goal? The characters of Nikhil and Dhananjay, who are predictable, benefit greatly from our lack of comprehension of Asur’s motives.
Dhananjay is the erratic police officer who prioritizes his work over everything else, while Nikhil is the family man who excels at what he does. We are never curious about these characters, who are not new to television land. That is fine because they aren’t the main attraction; Is Asur? When a story takes precedence over the actors in it, this is what happens.
Even though most of the characters in Asur haven’t caught our attention, which is a good thing considering the circumstances, there has been one who has been annoying. She is Nikhil’s wife, Naina. Nikhil, played by Barun Sobti in his muddled hair magnificence, is all the person who can match the cerebrums of Asur, yet Naina continues to pull him back.
We had to make a conscious effort to remind ourselves that she was correct and that we should keep our internalized misogyny under control because it was tempting to place her in the category of the nagging, unreasonable wife. Be that as it may, in season 2, she totally changes track and is a lady on a mission since she has a score to settle, and we were shocked at how rapidly we loved her this time. Honestly, she is the main one to have shown genuine person improvement concerning the occasions of the series.
Arshad Warsi is still effortless in everything he does, but in Season 2 of Asur, we found the placement of his character at the beginning of a monastery to be very jarring. When it comes to Barun Sobti, the actor is good at picking good stories, but we don’t like how few of them he does.
