Storyline:

Debut player Srikanth Oderas Dassala has been controversial and there is no doubt about it. Dharani (Nani) has been afraid of many things since childhood. He doesn’t like to raise his voice in awkward situations, so in his childhood he would sometimes lose control of his bladder when he heard a cat meow nearby. One day his grandmother told him that he was drinking to avoid her anxiety, but no one was surprised to see Dharani always hanging a bottle around his waist. yeah. Srikanth spends much of the first half of the film building the world of Veerlapally and the characters that live in it. He spends a lot of time in small moments. Let’s hope Srikanth hits the gas for the second half as something big turns everyone’s lives upside down. Instead, he abandons his characters’ emotions. This doesn’t necessarily result in a scene that completely enchants you. Some songs don’t get the attention, others are too heavy, and the critically acclaimed song “Chamkeela Angeelesi” pops up out of nowhere. It also doesn’t go deep enough on some of the topics he explores.

But when Srikanth does it, it certainly does. There are few scenes in Dasara that stick with you long after the movie ends. The pre-interval sound is eerie, not the usual “interval bang” and I really don’t know where to go from here. The climax is cathartic and gory, and the director tries his best to refuse to hold back. Massive high-altitude scenes are effective, and so are emotional ones, mostly. Women in this world struggle with men’s choices, but sometimes they have the power to decide.

Nani pours sweat, blood and tears into the role of Darani. After “Jersey,” this is probably his heaviest film to date, and he carries it on his shoulders. Keerthy Suresh shines in some scenes and not so much in others. It’s fun to watch her dance with ballat, but it’s frustrating when she acts like Hammy in important scenes. Shine Tom Chako got a chance to go crazy in one scene, but otherwise felt wasted. The same applies to Sai Kumar and Samthira Kani. Poorna and Dixie do their respective roles well. Satyan Surian’s cinematography is a big plus for the film, as is Santosh Narayanan’s music.

Dasara isn’t a movie that leaves you with a smile at the end, nor a movie that reinvents the wheel. Could it have been better? safety. But Srikanth Odella and Nani are sure to make this slow burn a success. Therefore, credit where credit is due.
